Annotation of the programme:
The "Fundamentals of Adapted Physical Activity" distance-learning module (5 ECTS) introduces participants to the historical, conceptual, and professional foundations of Adapted Physical Activity (APA). It focuses on creating conditions for the meaningful participation of individuals with disabilities and other special needs in physical activities. Emphasis is placed on person-centered planning, respect for the individual's needs, preferences, and autonomy, and the development of therapeutic relationships within APA based on trust and a partnership approach. The module addresses self-concept and perceived self-efficacy in the context of participation in physical activities. It also covers the legislative and strategic frameworks of APA, fosters an understanding of disability-related issues, and develops skills for advocating for the rights, needs, and interests of participants within a multi-professional environment. Participants compare the roles of professionals involved in supporting participation and examine the principles of interdisciplinary collaboration. They also gain insight into the organizational structures of sports for people with disabilities, specifically the Deaflympic, Paralympic, and Special Olympics movements. Through distance learning, case study analysis, and reflection, participants link theoretical foundations to practical applications in the field of APA. The target audience primarily includes educators, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, coaches, social workers, and other professionals, as well as students in these related fields.
Educational objectives of the programme:

The course aims to equip educators, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, coaches, social workers, and other professionals - as well as students in these related fields - with knowledge that can be applied either independently or as a foundation for engaging with further topics offered under the long-term COOL-APA project (Collaborative Online and Onsite Learning in Adapted Physical Activity).
