Annotation of the programme:
The programme is intended for managerial and senior UP staff and will be organized in two thematic sessions. How can research organizations develop a clear strategic profile while enabling scientific excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and societal impact? Drawing on practical experience from the Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen (CENIDE) at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE, Germany), this session explores key challenges and approaches in strategic research management. It will discuss governance structures, stakeholder management, strategic priorities, funding, collaboration, and the translation of scientific strengths into institutional visibility and impact. The session combines practical examples with opportunities for discussion and reflection. This session will be led by Dr. Tobias Teckentrup. Higher education institutions are among the most complex legal entities within the Czech legal system. Their primary role is to provide education and to engage in research and creative activities, while their so-called "third mission" is also of considerable importance. It is equally important to recognize that, among OECD countries, public higher education institutions enjoy the highest degree of autonomy vis-a-vis the state. At the same time, the Czech system is characterized by a high degree of autonomy granted to individual components, particularly faculties, vis-a-vis the universitys central administration. Is it possible to manage higher education institutions effectively under these conditions? Is it possible to meet all statutory obligations without making mistakes? Can higher education institutions draw on examples of good practice from the Czech Republic or abroad? The second session will be led by Dr. Mgr. Aleš Vlk.
Educational objectives of the programme:
The educational objective of the programme is to develop managerial and leadership skills in the context of the academic and research environment. The programme takes a practical approach and responds to real-life challenges related to leading people and teams, managing research, and navigating change in the academic and research environment. At the same time, it is geared towards acquiring inspiration from experts from the Czech Republic and partner universities within the Aurora Alliance, and sharing experiences with other leaders and managers at Palacký University Olomouc.
